Match Report: Vasco 1-1 Milano

Milano United came from a goal down to secure a point away from home when then played to a 1-1 stalemate with Vasco da Gama at Parow Park on Saturday afternoon

The opening stages of the match was a typical Cape derby with a high intensity back-and-forth battle. Although, the Milano United looked more dangerous in the final third, with the home side Vasco committing a number of fouls in dangerous positions.

Vasco da Gama goalkeeper Steven Hoffman was in sublime form on the day as he produced a number of match winning saves during to keep his side in the game. In the 18th minute, Hoffman was well positioned when he collected Eezy My Kinnes first attempt on goal through Ghanaian attacker Attram Kwame.

Shortly after, The Kinnes moved swiftly into the final third with a beautiful build up play between Kwame and Nazier Jacobs, and ultimately setup Ganief Stellenboom who’s one-on-one opportunity was kept out by Hoffman.

At the opposite end, Samuel Julies set-piece from 35-yards went narrowly over the woodwork.

The home side Vasco took the lead at the half hour mark when Stanley Muishond slotted the ball home following a scramble inside the six-yard area.

The Kinnes continued to create a number of goal scoring opportunities but lacked the final pass when it was needed. Meanwhile, Zeka Karkee and Muishond teamed up nicely in the middle of the park for the home team.

Two minutes into the second period Milano came close to finding the equalizer when Taariq Fielies long ball into the area almost crept in at the far post. Coach Theo Hempe introduced the fresh legs of Ruzaigh Gamildien into The Kinnes attack as they looked to level matters.

Gamildien almost made an instant impact when Kwame set him up, but his effort was brilliantly kept out by Hoffman.

In the 52nd minute the heroics of Hoffman was called on yet again, and the lanky shot-stopper tipped Nasief Morris 35-yard set-piece over the crossbar.

Milano eventually leveled matters in the 61st minute when Stellenboom’s long ball into the 18-yard area was deflected by Karkee into the back of his own net for an own goal.

Coach Hempe then looked to get the winner and rejuvenated the attack with Lesvin Stoffels and Brent Adonis. However, it was Vasco who came close to snatching the late win, but were denied by goalkeeper Lee Langeveldt who pulled off two miraculous saves of his own.
